Period Pain
PERIOD PAIN
Period pain arrives when we have an excess of prostaglandins and often are living out of sync with our cycle.
If often see clients that have pain during their bleed, it is often when their period is coming, often on day 1 or 2 when the blood is not flowing yet, a little stagnant, and when the flow begins properly then the pain subsides.
This is because the body will up the cramping until the blood is moving out of the body.
It is associated with excess VATA dosha.
Clients with period clots, more brown/purple blood or light periods will have more pain.
It is very common in our society but it is NOT normal.
What is normal?
Feeling like you have less energy is normal, all the energy has gone down to your womb In Ayurveda we call with Apana Vata.
You may also feel some gentle cramping, movement as the uterus contracts to release the blood, but this is a gentle feeling and it is not pain.

CRAMP BARK/Guelder rose is an incredible herb to reduce pain and cramping. Which is where it gets its name from.
Epsom salt baths can help
Hot water bottle
and a tens machine is something a lot of women are starting to use during labour but more so during painful periods that are debilitating.
In practice, I use Yellow Jasmine ~ Gelsemium but this is a herb only practitioners can prescribe with a very specific dose, it knocks the pain completely, I use it a lot for my Endometriosis clients.
I would also recommend reducing inflammatory foods, especially processed foods, white sugar, foods with preservatives, alcohol and too much alcohol. Social wine is fine and raw cane sugar is ok, Im just talking processed and excess.
GINGER can also help with the pain and reduce feelings of nausea. It will need to be grated or a knob of ginger squashed and infused overnight. You want it super gingery and spicey. drink with some lemon and honey to make more palatable.
Travel sickness bands can also be helpful if the pain is overwhelming which work on acupressure points.
